Gallery 1957 is pleased to announce our return to 1-54 Marrakech, presenting a group exhibition of works by Gideon Appah, Amoako Boafo, Kwesi Botchway, Kelvin Haizel, and Kwaku Yaro.
This group of visionary artists brings forth an expansive exploration of Black identity, memory, and futurity through diverse mediums. Whether reimagining childhood memories, deconstructing the portrait tradition, or transforming everyday objects, each artist invites us to reconsider the boundaries of representation, culture, and imagination.
From Appah’s vibrant storytelling that merges dreams and landscapes, to Boafo’s dynamic portraits that celebrate Black figures in their most triumphant states, and Botchway’s reclamation of Black beauty through luminous, surreal faces—these artists push the conversation forward, challenging perceptions and redefining the representation of Black identity and culture beyond dominant narratives.
Haizel’s abstract, textured compositions immerse us in the world of jazz and sonic improvisation, while Yaro’s intricate works—crafted from often-overlooked materials—reflect the power of resourcefulness and community in the face of modern challenges.
Together, these artists represent a new wave of African creativity, honoring the past while embracing the possibilities of the future.
We look forward to welcoming you to Booth 1 at 1-54 Art Fair Marrakech from January 30th to February 2nd, 2025.
