Gallery 1957’s Keeping Time Featured in Frieze’s Top 10 Shows Around the World in 2024

We’re thrilled to share that Keeping Time, Gallery 1957’s monumental group show, has been featured in Frieze magazine’s roundup of the Top 10 Shows Around the World in 2024.

Co-curated by Ekow Eshun and Karon Hepburn, the exhibition, which closed on January 11th, 2024, skillfully united the diverse practices of Ghana-based artists and those from the African diaspora, challenging historical narratives and the Eurocentric frameworks that dominate the art world.

As a sequel to the highly acclaimed In and Out of Time (2023), Keeping Time brought together returning artists like Amoako Boafo and Modupeola Fadugba with exciting new additions such as Alvaro Barrington and Ravelle Pillay. The show exemplified Gallery 1957's ongoing commitment to rethinking representation and portraiture in contemporary African art.

A heartfelt thanks to Frieze and art critic Osman Can Yerebakan for highlighting this important exhibition. We are proud to be part of a global conversation that continues to reshape art history.
