Gideon Appah Featured in Marie Claire

As part of the Body and Soul exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection in Paris, Gideon Appah continues to captivate audiences with his exploration of the human body. Featured alongside works from renowned artists like David Hammons, Marlene Dumas, and Ana Mendieta, Appah’s dreamlike paintings offer a unique perspective on identity and transformation, highlighting the body’s vulnerability and resilience.

In an insightful review for Marie Claire, Natacha Wolinski highlights Appah’s significant contribution to this exhibition, noting his works as an integral part of the show’s exploration of the body’s representation. Wolinski writes:
"Represented for two years by the Pace Gallery in New York, one of the most prestigious in the world, Gideon Appah has naturally entered the Pinault collection. The works of this Ghanaian artist illuminate the Salon, as part of the new exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce, which focuses on a fascinating exploration of the representation of the body in contemporary art."

Appah’s signature dreamlike canvases, filled with "gemstone colors," are described as soft yet sensual, with bodies that intersect but remain distinct, evoking a sense of longing and detachment. Wolinski beautifully summarizes the essence of his work:
"Flattened on the landscape, they are detached from the lost paradise. Through these dreamlike canvases, the body is transformed, hybridized, and always reinvented."

We are proud to see Gideon Appah’s work highlighted in this major exhibition, and we thank Natacha Wolinski and Marie Claire for their thoughtful review of the show.
